Context matters.
The Clinton campaign has to deal with a lot of distorsion from a media that has decided that Hillary needs a trial by fire to deserve the nomination, while they seem to be sweet for Obama. I like both candidates, and rightly so, I will take all media interpretations of their statements or their supporters’ statements with a very small grain of salt, knowing that the media has been biased, is biased, and will be biased.
NBC recently filleted Hillary and placed her on the Foreman grill last sunday on Mett the Press. With clever clipping of quotes by her husband, they insinuated that it was the position of her campaign that Obama’s presidential aspirations constituted a “fairy tale”, and that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. couldn’t have done anything without LBJ on his side. Neither of these things is true, and neither are Clinton positions.
The media seems to be incapable of giving Hillary a break, as if anyone who runs against Obama is a racist. Yet they don’t show this same scrutiny towards Edwards, nor any of the GOP candidates.
Candidates can’t be nice to their opponents anymore. But the media should not serve to trump up artificial conflicts with racial undertones. This only sullies and cheapens the whole process and prevents genuine issues and dilemmas facing the nation to be addressed.
Even Bill O’Reilly admitted that NBC’s grilling of Hillary was unfair and uncalled-for. The national Democratic frontrunner deserves better than being bombarded with not-so-cleverly clipped, out-of-context video. Hilary doesn’t want the presidential race to be about race. Obama doesn’t want the presidential race to be about race. And I agree with their positions.
I implore anyone paying attention to the presidential elections: Always put media coverage in context. Here’s the context: they’re not balanced. Now, who to vote for…..
